The Oracle
The Oracle presented both formal and visceral similarities between
contemporary art-making and 19th and 20th Century African art. Works
by Ruby Neri, Henry Taylor, Kandis Williams, and Kahlil Joseph were
displayed alongside rarities from The Jeremiah Cole Collection of Arts
d’Afrique.
Joseph’s two-screen installation m.A.A.d. (2014), a lush portrait of contemporary Compton, would later be installed at the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles (MOCA) as a solo show titled Kahlil Joseph: Double Conscience.
